Blackboard Essentials for Instructors

Adding Content

Adding Content

Much  of the content of a course on Blackboard can consist of text created in Blackboard by an instructor, documents uploaded by the instructor to Blackboard, and links to content on the web. Typically, the instructor will put such materials in a content area that has a name listed in the Course Menu. By default, courses on Blackboard have a content area called "Course Material," although you can change that name or have multiple content areas if you choose. To add content, first click on the name of a content area in the Course Menu:

Inside of the content area there will be a tab labeled "Build Content" near the upper left. Click on that to see a list of types of content you might want to add:

The most common types of content an instructor might add are:

  • Item - text and images created by the instructor in Blackboard, with or without a file attachment.
  • Web Link - A link to a page on the web, with or without a file attachment.
  • Content Folder - A folder in which to store content such as Items and Web Links, useful for organizing multiple content items.

Use the Text Editor to create add text or images to your content. Optionally, you can also attach files from your computer to share with students.

Remember to click the Submit button at the lower right of the Blackboard screen to save your updates.
