Creating Assignments

An assignment in Blackboard provides each student with a way to submit their own work to Blackboard for grading. Students create their submissions using office software such as Google Slides, Docs, or Sheets, or Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, or Excel. They can then upload those files to Blackboard for review by the instructor. 

To create an assignment you'll need to provide a name, a description or instructions, and the number of possible points. To begin, click on Course Materials or the name of another Content Area in the Course Menu:

After opening the content area, click on the Assessments tab near the top of the screen, then click on Assignment:

A "Create Assignment" page will appear. In the Name box, type a name for the assignment. This will also be he name of a column in the Grade Center that is automatically created to record student submissions and grades. 

Use the Text Editor to add instructions In the Instructions Box. Optionally, you can attach a file to share with students, such as detailed instructions, questions to answer, or data to work with.

Optionally, you can set a due date and time in the boxes labeled "Due Date." Students can see the due date and time in their Blackboard calendar.

Type in the number of points for the assignment in the box labeled "Points Possible."  If you are planning to grade the assignment by percentage, type in 100.

Remember to click the Submit button at the lower right of the Blackboard screen to finalize your input.
