You can attach files such as word documents, spreadsheets, or slide presentations to many different types of content inside of a Blackboard course, such as a content item, a link to a web site, a test or assignment, or a discussion board forum.
First you create the file using an Office program like Google Slides or Microsoft Word. You'll need to save the file in a format that is compatible with Blackboard, such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, or Adobe Acrobat PDF. Make sure you know where, on your own computer, the file has been stored. Note that files in the Adobe Acrobat PDF format can usually be read by students directly in Blackboard, without having to download the file and open it with another program. For this reason, it is generally recommended that files be saved in PDF format before adding them to Blackboard.
In Blackboard, on the screens for creating many different types of content, you'll see an option to attach a file. It will look like this:
Click on "Browse My Computer" to make your file part of the content item. Blackboard will open a screen that helps you find and select the file on your computer. The exact appearance of the screen will depend on the type of computer and computer settings. It might look something like this:
With this kind of screen you can navigate to different folders on your computer, click on the file to select it, then click the Open button at the lower right to tell Blackboard that's the file you want.
Remember to click the Submit button at the lower right of the Blackboard screen to finalize your updates.
When you click the Submit button, your file is uploaded to Blackboard and is made available to students. If the file is large or your internet connection is slow, it might take several minutes to upload the file from your computer to Blackboard. Using most types of computers and devices, students will be able to see Adobe Acrobat PDF files immediately when they click on the link in the course. To see most other file formats the students will have to download the file to their own device and then open it with a compatible program to see it.
