PowerNotes Usage Guide: Downloading Outlines

A step-by-step guide to the main functionality of PowerNotes for students and researchers.

Downloading a Project Outline or Bibliography

The outline for a PowerNotes project can be viewed by going to and selecting the project. All topics, sources, and citations will be listed. Sources can be dragged to reorder them within a topic or move them to a different topic.

To download a copy of the outline in document format, click on the “Export” button and select “Word (.docx)”. You can download the full outline, which includes all of the quoted information for each source as well as the project's topics. You can also download the project's bibliography, which only includes the citations in alphabetical order.

Exporting Source Notes

To download the source notes for a project, click on the “Export” button and select “Excel (.xlsx)”, then select “Source Notes”. This will download a spreadsheet with the source notes for each item in the outline. Your professor might ask you to export your source notes so that your source evaluation can be evaluated.
