Qwickly Attendance: Student Check-In

Student Check-In

Student Check-In

When enabled by an instructor, students will be able to log their own attendance in Blackboard using the Qwickly Attendance tool. The instructor will use the system to generate a pin number, and will direct students to record their presence in the course using that pin. The "Check-In" procedure can be completed on most internet-enabled devices, using most browsers. On iOS and Android devices, Check-In can be completed using the Blackboard App.

After the instructor has directed students to Check In, students can complete the process as follows:

  1. Make sure your computer, pad, or smartphone is connected to the internet.
  2. Start a browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, or start the Blackboard App.
  3. If not already logged in, log in to Blackboard.
  4. Open the course for which you have been directed to Check In.
  5. Locate and click on the "Attendance" link in the course menu. Alternatively, you might be able to click on the Tools link, then on Qwickly Attendance.
  6. In the Attendance Check-In screen that appears, type the pin number distributed by the instructor.
  7. Click the "Check In" button.
  8. Blackboard will report that attendance has been recorded. That notification will look something like this:

Potential Difficulties

The process described above works on many different kinds of devices, but the exact appearance of screens might vary, depending on the browser or App used, on the size of the screen on your device, and on the settings in the Blackboard course. Two potential difficulties resulting from variations in screen appearance are described below:

  1. Locating the link to Qwickly Attendance
  2. Where to Type in the Pin Number

Locating the link to Qwickly Attendance

On the Blackboard App, on an iPhone with a small screen, the link to Qwickly Attendance from inside of one particular course looks like this:

In this instance, the link to Qwickly Attendance appears at the bottom, but that can vary from course to course, depending on how the instructor has ordered the Course Menu.  The same Course Menu, for the same course, looks like this when Blackboard is accessed through the Google Chrome browser on a computer with a large screen:

Where to Type in the Pin Number

On many browsers and screens, the Check-In screen looks like this:

The area for entering the pin number is the white space between the blue box containing the instructions "Enter the 4-digit number provided by your instructor" and the text "check in period will close in." A cursor, indicating the current data entry position might (or might not) be visible in the middle of the field in which the pin number is to be typed. Whether or not the cursor is visible will depend on the App or browser used. The form (shape) of the cursor may vary depending on system and browser settings.

Note that on devices with small screens the data-entry field for typing in the pin number might be slightly offset to the left or the right. Using the Blackboard App on an iPhone with a small screen, the pin number will look like this after it is typed in:
